ZALANDO & INGRAM MICRO PARTNER UP TO OPERATE NORDIC WAREHOUSE IN STOCKHOLM

BERLIN, October 9th 2017 // Zalando, Europe’s leading online fashion platform, has finalized its search for a local partner to run the first Nordic fulfillment center in Sweden. Global service provider Ingram Micro has been chosen to operate the satellite warehouse in Brunna, situated in the county of Stockholm. As earlier announced, NREP Logicenters is the property developer. The partnership between Ingram Micro and Zalando marks another step towards establishing logistic operations in the region and Zalando’s aim to invest in further growth in the Nordic markets.

“Zalando has a clear plan for the Nordics. Our aim is to increase revenues to 1 billion EUR in the upcoming years through enhancing customer convenience and fashion relevance. To achieve this ambitious yet realistic goal, we need to expand our local logistics footprint and come closer to our Nordic customers. I am happy to announce our partnership with Ingram Micro, which will enable us to realize the market potential with the first parcels being shipped from the fulfillment center Brunna later this year”, says Kenneth Melchior, Nordic Cluster Head at Zalando.

Global service provider Ingram Micro will operate the satellite in Brunna, where fulfillment and returns services will be ramped up during the course of 2017-2018. An interim site solution will enable kick starting first operations in late 2017, with the initial parcels catering to Swedish customers. Once the fulfillment center has reached full capacity, it will allow Zalando to shorten lead times in the Nordics by half, securing next day deliveries to the regional capitals and provide more than 500 new jobs.

“The new operations in Brunna mark both an important expansion of our presence on the growing Nordic markets and another milestone in the cooperation with our esteemed business partner Zalando. We have been working together close to a decade now and are extremely proud to have been entrusted with operating this latest addition to Zalando’s growing network of regional Distribution Centers,” comments Michiel Alting von Geusau, Executive Vice President EMEA & APAC, Ingram Micro CLS.

The fulfillment center in Brunna was chosen mainly due to its strategic location as it is ideal for catering to Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The continuously growing customer base will experience a smoother purchase journey and receive orders faster. The site will also provide a foundation for testing new pilots in the Nordic region, like the return on demand service currently running in Stockholm. Zalando started to internationalize its logistics network in December 2015 by opening the first fulfillment center outside Germany in Italy, and by end of this year will have eight logistics centers in five different markets in Europe in place.

Ingram Micro has a longstanding relationship with Zalando, starting in 2008 with the appointment of European e-commerce pioneers Docdata as Zalando’s first fulfillment and returns provider. In December 2015, Ingram Micro completed the acquisition of Docdata and is today one of Zalando’s trusted partners for both local operations and international returns management. Across the Nordics, Ingram Micro also operates Distribution Centers for other businesses in Borås and Rosersberg, Sweden and Espoo, Finland.
