New Committee for the International Ibsen Award

The International Ibsen Award is presented to an individual, institution or organisation that has brought new artistic dimensions to world drama or theatre. Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery (Labour Party) has now appointed a new committee for the award for the period 2026–2030.

The award amounts to NOK 2.5 million and is presented every second year.

This year, the award was presented to the South Korean performing artist, composer and video artist Jaha Koo. The next award ceremony will take place in 2028, 200 years after the birth of Henrik Ibsen.

“This is a highly competent committee that will be working with what has been called ‘the Nobel Prize of theatre’. I look forward to following the committee’s work, especially in the lead-up to the Ibsen Year 2028,” says Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery.

“I am honoured to welcome the new members of The International Ibsen Award Committee. Their artistic expertise and international perspectives will help keep the award a leading global recognition in the performing arts. I look forward to the process, as we together begin our work toward the 2028 International Ibsen Award," says Ingrid Lorentzen, chair of the committee.
