Lecture performance: Are We Not Drawn Onward, We FeW, drawn OnwarD to NeW erA by artist Martin White
The lecture performance will be given in English.
A lecture performance that exposes the work and archive of Norwegian psychiatrist Carl Wilhelm Sem-Jacobsen, today in the archive of The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology. Sem-Jacobsen's experimental psychosurgery was performed at Gaustad Hospital, Oslo, between 1956 and 1977 and was funded by agencies in North America including the Ford Foundation and various departments of the U.S. Military.
Australian born, Oslo based artist Martin White works at the intersection of documentary and speculation. Whilst he intends to unsettle systems beyond those of the art world, his conceptual motivations pivot on issues relating to social politics and cultural history. He completed his MFA at the Norwegian National Academy of Art in Oslo in 2017. He has upcoming solo shows at Podium and Oslo Kunstforening, both in 2019.
