Springer Nature and the Unit consortium in Norway have agreed in principle a transformative read and publish deal for 2020- 2022. This will allow researchers in Norway to read articles in journals on SpringerLink and Norwegian authors to publish Open Access (OA) in all of Springer Nature’s Open Choice portfolio of hybrid journals, meaning all primary research articles with corresponding authors from Norway will be open and immediately available from the point of publication.

In addition, an agreement has been reached to ensure all Unit members are able to continue to access research published in Springer journals throughout 2019.

Commenting, Dagmar Laging, Vice President Institutional Sales Europe Springer Nature, said: “We are delighted that Norway is joining our Compact family. Our transformative deals are proven to be instrumental in accelerating the transition to OA, such deals having already enabled over 70% of Springer Nature authors in four European countries to publish open access and make their research available immediately on publication. With such deals recognised by Plan S as a valid way to transition to OA, we look forward to partnering with Unit on their OA journey.”

Roar Olsen, Director General, Unit, said: “We are very pleased to have reached a provisional agreement with Springer Nature that meets all our requirements for transition agreements, and will enable Norwegian researchers to read and publish in the majority of Springer journals. Springer Nature will join the growing list of publishers that through new transformative agreements will make Norwegian research openly available.”
