In an emergency every second counts! DRF Luftrettung optimizes their purchasing processes with OpusCapita

DRF Luftrettung provides crucial help in emergency situations, saving people by air, everyday. The core factors needed to supply this essential service are of course well-trained pilots and medical professionals but also modern technology and a consistent supply of needed equipment. In order to further optimize their sourcing processes DRF Luftrettung has now decided to implement OpusCapita’s eProcurement solution.

“With 31 HEMS (helicopter emergency medical services) bases in Germany and Austria for emergency operations and two centers for supply, logistics and administration, the procurement department is facing the challenge to support a variety of daily needs. Procurement of all parts that are necessary for smooth operations is always a challenge”, highlights Achim Vogel, Head of Purchasing and Logistics at DRF Luftrettung. Together with his team and other departments, such as the department for medical device or drug management, he ensures smooth procurement of goods and services required for daily operations. Many different locations and needs are the biggest challenge for standardization. Achim Vogel sees the key right here: "With the use of the OpusCapita eProcurement Suite, we are taking another big step in simplifying and simultaneously digitalizing the procurement processes for all employees."

And since every second counts in an emergency , the project time frame is ambitious as well. The first part of the project will go live within three months and will enable the purchasing of products and services via a dedicated portal. In a next step, medical products and helicopter equipment will be added to the portal. This is the part where things become a bit more complex because a tight monitoring and documentation of expiration dates and batches is needed. The implementation for this step is also already scoped out.
