Slow Coffee - vacuum brewing is hot

BODUM’s new ePEBO is the electric and easily accessible route to good, freshly brewed coffee with trendy siphon-technique.

When you say coffee, you automatically say BODUM. The Danish brand became world-famous when Peter Bodum introduced the Santos vacuum coffee maker back in the 1950s, which revolutionised the brewing of coffee. Not only because it brewed aromatic and tasty coffee quickly, but also due to its patented filter - a solid component of the coffee maker - making cotton and paper filters unnecessary.

New electric edition of Santos

Earlier this year, BODUM introduced a whole new chapter in the history of both BODUM and Santos, by launching the new ePEBO, which further develops the traditional method of brewing. The non-electric edition of Santos has been named PEBO for many years, and the new version is therefore simply ePEBO. What’s new with the ePEBO is that you no longer need an external heating source – it can brew coffee anywhere, as long as you have a power outlet nearby.

The vacuum-brewing method of Santos, PEBO and the new ePEBO is also called ‘siphon brewing’, and that method is in the most literal way, ‘hot’. Enthusiasts around the world have no doubt – siphon is the ideal choice if you want a cup of freshly brewed, black and piping hot coffee. The brewing method essentially ensures that all the valuable oils in the coffee are extracted, with the ideal balance between temperature and brewing time. The vacuum created during the brewing seals the flavours, to ensure that you take full advantage of the wonderful coffee beans. And although it sounds advanced, the ePEBO is extremely simple to use on a daily basis.

Dramatic brewing of coffee

Additionally it looks great when the ePEBO is brewing – a little dramatic, like a tiny bit of science. When the water has reached the correct 94 degrees Celcius, it rises to the top part of the coffee maker and mixes with the coffee beans. After 4 minutes of bubbling, everything runs down into the serving pot through the built-in filter.
