Cavidi introduces Ziva™ – a breakthrough in near-patient viral load monitoring

Today Cavidi introduces Ziva at the 20th International AIDS conference in Melbourne. Ziva is a fully automated platform for viral load monitoring designed for district hospitals. It will allow health authorities and treatment programs worldwide to move viral load testing closer to patients.

Ziva is specifically designed for use in district hospitals and other decentralized labs. It is a medium throughput system with the flexibility to run either 20 or 48 tests in one run. Ziva provides “walk-away” testing with minimal hands-on time, so it is easy to run the test while attending to other lab tasks or after hours.  Ziva is a bench-top device designed to fit in with existing lab facilities.

“Ziva fulfills a market need. Leading organizations like MSF and UNITAID have identified the need for an automated viral load test suitable for lab-based near-patient monitoring. Ziva provides that with a medium throughput device designed for district hospitals”, says John Reisky de Dubnic CEO at Cavidi

Cavidi plans to address the distributed lab-testing segment by providing viral load testing to HIV patients with no access today - currently over 9 million people. This product will support the massive scale up of viral load testing over the next decade called for by the WHO to contain the pandemic in high disease burdened countries.

Ziva is an automated version of the world’s leading manual test, ExaVir Load, the only viral load test available today for use in district hospitals. It therefore builds on the proven track record of the manual test that has been used in monitoring patients in over 25 countries to date.

Cavidi will introduce Ziva in Melbourne and aims to find sponsors of treatment programs interested in improving their viral load coverage.

For over two decades Cavidi has been dedicated to increasing access to HIV viral load monitoring for all HIV-positive patients. Our ExaVir™ Load test accomplishes this by bringing national reference lab quality to the near-patient environment. Independent studies confirm that ExaVir Load is as accurate as gold standard RNA-based tests yet is capable of running in virtually any lab. In fact, ExaVir Load is proven to perform at the District Hospital level where the need is greatest.

To date, over 400,000 ExaVir Load tests have been run backed by governments and major global NGOs in more than 25 countries. But there is still much work to be done. Cavidi is committed to continued innovation in this area in support of our conviction that the time for HIV viral load testing is now
