Making way for Harmony

Panalpina recently completed the move of the artwork ∞Harmony (一團和氣) by renowned Chinese cross-media artist Wang Kaifang, in a 1,600 km operation from Nanjing to Macau, where he was invited to display his work by prominent high-fashion designer Guo Pei.

The Panalpina teams in Macau, Zhongshan, and Nanjing delivered the installation in a flawless operation within barely eight days, demonstrating perfect cooperation across different units. The teams arranged pickup with 11 flatbed trucks at Nanjing, transloaded the cargo onto 16 smaller flatbed trucks at Zhuhai, and delivered the cargo in Macau ahead of schedule.

∞Harmony integrates digital art into traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Wang combined wind power experiments and 3D printing to capture the movement of silk in the air. To create this impressive figure, 80 craftsmen worked for 100 days to mold 24 tons of stainless steel and 80,000 sheets of 24k gold. It took 3 million strikes of hammering and the welding of 1.8 million joints to complete.

The sculpture is being exhibited at MGM Cotai, a USD 3.4 billion resort which is meant to redefine the way people experience art and entertainment through seamlessly integrated technology.
