EIT ICT Labs today opens second Innovation Hotspot in Germany

Munich is an important IT hotspot in the world. Cooperation between established technology leaders and startups is now boosted with the opening of a second official branch of EIT ICT Labs Germany in Munich. Today, the youngest offset of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology will be celebrated with a ceremony at fortiss Institut.

“Our Co-Location Centers and Satellites play a crucial role in our open and collaborative drive towards European ICT innovation”, says Prof. Dr. Willem Jonker, CEO of EIT ICT  Labs. “In these locations we integrate our education and innovation activities to drive European economic growth and quality of life. With the opening of the Munich Satellite, we celebrate the strong connection of EIT ICT Labs to yet another innovation hotspot in Europe.”

The office in Munich will function as a satellite to the Co-Location Center in Berlin. Both German innovation hotspots work closely together with a strong network of excellent partners in ICT innovations bringing together education, research and industries. Members of EIT ICT Labs Germany are: Deutsche Telekom AG, Siemens AG, SAP AG, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft e.V., DFKI gGmbH and TU Berlin, and among its affiliate partners are the major technical universities TU Darmstadt, TU München, KIT, and Universität des Saarlandes.

„Munich has always been an important hub for Industry and research in ICT, in Germany as well as in Europe”, says Dr. Udo Bub, Managing Director of EIT ICT Labs Germany GmbH. “This traditional role is emphasized once more by the agile startup scene in the region. We welcome the opening of our Munich branch and thereby the consolidation of the footprint and innovation capability of EIT ICT Labs in Germany.”

With the founding of EIT ICT Labs in 2010 an international innovation community with network centers was born. Co-Location Centers in Helsinki, Stockholm, Paris, Eindhoven Trento and Berlin are the vibrant virtual and live meeting places for project members, students, entrepreneurs, SMEs and start-ups as well as major research and industrial partners searching for new talents and new innovative opportunities.
