The Port of Gothenburg Launches their Website in Chinese Version

From December 3th, 2012, the world will be able to discover The Port of Gothenburg online in Chinese. This is the first Swedish port that publishes their website for Chinese speakers, and it also marks the rapidly growing trade volume between Sweden and China.

Through the Port’s Chinese homepage, readers can find varies of information, such as the introduction of the Port Authority; Terminal and Services; Liner Services; and the environmental works. “It is really an upgrade for us to present the Port of Gothenburg to the world”, said Magnus Kårestedt, The CEO of Gothenburg Port Authority.

The Port of Gothenburg has done several promotions in China with the slogan of “Get Closer” in recent years. “China is such a big market and we need to enhance our awareness among potential clients there”, said Cecilia Carlsson, Corporate Communication Manager of Gothenburg Port Authority, “To launch our website to Chinese market is one of the most important steps to get closer to them, and we are looking forward to the coming positive results.”

The maritime trade between Sweden and China has a long history. The first direct trade link between the countries was established back in 1731. Today there are two direct services from Gothenburg to China and Far East countries. Since 2003, China has been becoming one of the most important trading partners for Sweden. According to the latest statistics 2011, 44% of total import and export volume through the Port are with the Far East Asia countries, in which 52% of import volume and 37% export volume. The growth of the trade volumes strengthen the importance of China, as the largest port in Scandinavia, it will be one of the main priorities for the Port of Gothenburg to open a bigger window to Chinese market and to establish better service to Chinese clients in future.
