Press release -

Nobel Peace Prize laureate exhibition goes to Brussels

Wednesday 15 May, the Nobel Peace Center’s exhibition Europe from War to Peace opens in Parlamentarium, the visitor center of the European Parliament in Brussels.

“We are delighted that the European Parliament shows our Nobel Peace Prize laureate exhibition in Brussels, and proud that the Parlamentarium is our venue. President Martin Schulz opened the exhibition in Oslo in December, and now a greater audience gets to experience it and learn about the reasons for EU being awarded the Prize”, Bente Erichsen, Executive Director at the Nobel Peace Center states.

The making of the official Nobel Peace Prize laureate exhibition is an annual occurrence that spans a mere eight weeks, from the Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee announces the new Peace Prize laureate, to the exhibition opens in December. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate exhibition on the EU is the eight in the row. The exhibition has been shown in other Peace Prize laureate’s headquarters, e.g. the exhibition on IAEA and Mohamad ElBaradei was shown in Vienna, Austria and the one on Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank was shown in Dakha, Bangladesh.

“The exhibition shows how Europe has developed from a continent of war to a continent of peace, and contains iconic photographs from pivotal moments of Europe’s history”, says Liv Astrid Sverdrup, Director of Exhibitions at the Nobel Peace Center.
“The Brussel audience will also get a taste of the Nobel festivities in Oslo in December, making the celebration of the Peace Prize laureate EU accessible to many more.”

For the first time in history, generations of Europeans are living without fear of war in their own country. In three exclusive interviews with EU’s own leaders, presidents Herman Van Rompuy, José Manuel Barroso and Martin Schultz made for the exhibition, they share their views on European collaboration and future. Visitors in both Brussels and Oslo are invited to give advice to the EU on what it can do for peace today. The publics’ advice will be delivered to the EU when the exhibitions end.

Deputy Chair Kaci Kullmann Five will be representing the Norwegian Nobel Committee on the exhibition opening in Brussels.

For the Brussels opening, the Nobel Peace Center has produced an exhibition catalogue for sale in the shops of the Parlamentarium and the Nobel Peace Center.
