The Nobel Peace Center donates one day’s income to refugees

Thursday 1 October, all income from the museum, shop and café at the Nobel Peace Center will go in full to Unicef’s work for refugees.

- We are all affected by the refugee situation in Europe, and this is our way of contributing. The Nobel Peace Center has chosen to give the money to Unicef, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 50 years ago, and who do exceptional work for children, says Executive Director Bente Erichsen.

The refugee situation will characterize all activities at the Nobel Peace Center on 1 October. The topic of Dynamite of the day, the weekly debate night at the café Alfred, is “Fleeing through Europe”. The panel consists of: photographer Espen Rasmussen, who recently followed two brothers fleeing Syria, nurse Siv Sandvold, who volunteered on Lesbos, and Narges Pourzia, who heads the refugee work in Rælingen municipality. (The event will be held in Norwegian.)

Outside the museum, the art work Mare Nostrum serves as a powerful reminder about the drama taking place in the Mediterranean every day. On the inside, the newly opened photo exhibition Targets and the exhibition about last year’s laureates Malala and Kailash are both open from 10.00 to 20.00 this Thursday.

- Every single visitor to the Nobel Peace Center will help improve the situation for refugees. All the money generated will in its entirety go to Unicef, Erichsen says.

The money will be donated on 6 October, during the opening of the Nobel Peace Center’s exhibition 1965 Unicef , on the occasion of the 50-year anniversary of Unicef being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
