PEMA joins the new I AM Industry Alliance

The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) along with 20 other organisations, has joined the Industry Alliance for Multimodal Connectivity and Logistics (I AM), which seeks to promote the interests of the ports and shipping sector in the context of EU policy initiatives.

“As a major voice in the global ports and terminals sector, PEMA is delighted to be part of this vital initiative, established by the Federation of European Private Port Operators and Terminals (FEPORT), with the intention to inform debate and policy making in areas such as competitiveness, efficiency, reliability, safety, security, and supply chain sustainability across Europe,” says PEMA President Ottonel Popesco.The Alliance’s work will focus on the logistics, cargo transport and handling, and freight service segments.According to a statement released by the Alliance, I AM will “provide industry input to EU decision makers, TEN-T Corridor Coordinators and relevant EU agencies, operating on a coalition model, on topics where there is consensus.”

I AM is set to decide on its top priority areas at its inaugural annual plenary due to be held in the spring of 2017. The agenda for this meeting will be guided by the EU Commission’s annual work programmes and proposals from I AM members.

Membership of I AM is open to all organisations looking to pursue the objectives of the Alliance.

I AM founding members include the Federation of European Private Port Operators and Terminals (FEPORT), the worldwide network of port cities (AIVP), the Bureau International du Conteneur (BIC), the European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT), the European Barge Association (EBU), the European Boatmen’s Association, the European Community Association of Ship Brokers and Agents (ECASBA), the Association of European Vehicle Logistics (ECG), the European Community Ship Owners’ Association (ECSA), the European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP), the European Maritime Pilots’ Association (EMPA), the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), European Shippers Council (ESC), European Tug Owners Association (ETA), the European Dredging Association (EuDA), global cargo handling NGO ICHCA International, International Road Transport Union (IRU), PEMA, Sea Europe, the Ships and Maritime Equipment Association, the International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP), the International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR), and the European Association of Professional Portside Storekeepers for Agri-bulk Commodities (UNISTOCK).
