Plant-based startup Raging Pig are hypnotising people to get off meat

With a grand vision of putting an end to our meat eating days, Swedish plant-based foodtech startup Raging Pig Company is launching the world’s first hypnosis therapy designed to get you off meat once and for all. The guided three-step program “Get Off Meat Hypnosis” starring hypnotherapist Anna-Maj Velander is now available at Spotify, Apple podcast and wherever you find your podcasts.

The plant-based revolution is on the rise, with the U.S. plant-based market doubling in 2020. An increased awareness of the environmental impact and ethical conditions of the meat and dairy industries is one of the main drivers for this growth. However, meat eaters remain a majority and the demand for meat is still growing on a global scale.

The Raging Pig Company, with its vision to help fast track the conversion towards a plant-based lifestyle, realised that concentrating on vegetarians and flexitarians is not enough. Knowing the facts and figures do not seem to inspire people to convert quickly enough. Targeting meat eaters’ subconscious and their attitude towards animals that tend to be based on things like lobbying, marketing and upbringing might be the missing piece of the puzzle.

-Humankind desperately needs to alter our destructive business as usual. Animal agriculture is one of the biggest environmental issues there is and that’s a fact. However, for us complex beings, facts are not necessarily enough for changing our behaviour, we need to get to the core of people’s minds and attitudes and bridge the cognitive dissonance between knowing the facts and changing our actual behaviour, says Adam Mikkelsen, Co-founder Raging Pig.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool

Hypnotherapy or guided hypnosis is used to create a state of deep relaxation with a heightened consciousness and intense attention, which puts the client in an altered state of awareness. Due to the possibility of increased suggestibility, this method is known to be successful while dealing with trauma or in breaking destructive behaviours and patterns, such as alcoholism, smoking and now meat consumption.

-I’ve seen people make life changing decisions and resolve significant previous misunderstandings or hurtful beliefs during hypnosis sessions. Hypnosis is in fact a very powerful tool to create long lasting effects on how we perceive the world and thus act in our own life, says hypnotherapist Anna-Maj Velander.

    Helps people get off meat

While working with the Get Off Meat program, Anna-Maj Velander herself decided to convert from a 15 year long flexitarian diet to a full vegan diet and judging from the early testers of the hypnosis program, ranging from vegetarians to meat lovers, the feedback exceeds the expectation.

-People have different reasons or excuses for eating meat, and logical reasoning is often not enough to let go of a lifelong habit. There are so many subconscious connections that need to be broken before we can actually make an informed and conscious decision. With “Get Off Meat Hypnosis” we want to make that process easier, or more fair if you will, without playing the blame game. And luckily, it seems to work, says Eric Calderon, co-founder Raging Pig.

"Get Off Meat Hypnosis" is for everyone

The guided hypnosis program is carefully designed to be efficient yet easy to use for today’s consumer, no matter if you currently identify as vegan, vegetarian or convinced meat lover. All the user has to do is to find a calm place, close their eyes and press play.

During each of the three 20 minute sessions they’ll be taken on a journey through “connecting”, “discovering” and “reconciliation”, guided by the hypnotherapist Anna-Maj Velander’s soothing voice supporting the user to reset its subconscious attitude towards meat consumption.

For people interested in trying out the “Get Off Meat Hypnosis” program themselves, it’s now available free of charge at Spotify, Apple Podcast and wherever you find your podcasts.
