Circus theme for Greenhouse 2011

Young rising star Jens Fager is responsible for designing Greenhouse, Stockholm Furniture Fair’s hall for independent designers and design schools, once again this year. The fair will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2011! To mark the occasion, there will be an anniversary exhibition in the entrance hall.

Jens’ inspiration for the colourful Greenhouse exhibition backdrop comes from the world of the circus. Circus dates back to the 1700s and has a strong tradition, both visually and in terms of entertainment.

“The setting is based on the visual aspect of the circus world with its strong, graphic coloured fields, humour, naivety and a touch of craziness. But the important thing about this exhibition is for all the designers to have the same scope to express their own visions – the focus is always on the exhibitors. They are the ones responsible for the entertainment,” says Jens.

In addition to 35 independent designers and design groups, it will also play host to just over 20 schools. Aalto University from Finland and Teko University from Denmark will be exhibiting for the first time. Jens is also designing the UNG8 touring exhibition, which will be given its premiere at Greenhouse. The exhibition, displaying the work of 22 talented young individuals, will occupy a central location in the hall. The most outstanding of these individuals will be awarded grants at the opening ceremony for the exhibition, on 8 February at 15.00. More info is available at: www.ung8.se

Swedish designer Jens Fager got his big break at Greenhouse 2008 with his final-year project Raw from the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Since then he has taken on assignments for Muuto, Philippe Starck, Zero Belysning, Rörstrand and restaurant LUX, among others.

We will be celebrating 60 years of Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2011. To mark the occasion, there will be a retrospective anniversary exhibition in the entrance hall featuring the foremost Swedish furniture classics from the past 60 years. These have been selected together with Hedvig Hedqvist, one of Sweden’s leading design journalists.

The Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair will take place on 8-12 February 2011 at Stockholm International Fairs.
