Change in the Management Board of Ed. Züblin AG at the beginning of 2019

  • Klaus Pöllath to retire: Management Board appoints Harald Supper as his successor
  • ZÜBLIN indicators for 2017 und the first quarter of 2018 suggest a high workload and full order books

At the end of the year, there will be a change among the members of the Management Board of Germany’s leading building construction and civil engineering company, Stuttgart-based Ed. Züblin AG: Klaus Pöllath (age: 65), who has been a member of the Management Board since 2003 and has worked for Ed. Züblin AG for 40 years, will take well-deserved retirement. In its constitutive meeting yesterday, the company’s Management Board (MB) confirmed that Harald Supper (age: 56), the technical head of the Stuttgart office, would pick up the baton on 1 January 2019. Holding a degree from a University of Applied Sciences in civil engineering and looking back on more than 29 years with ZÜBLIN, Supper can rely on his comprehensive know-how in building construction and civil engineering. In the Management Board of ZÜBLIN, he will work together with the current board members: Jörn Beckmann, Ulrich Klotz, Edgar Schömig, Alexander Tesche, Ulrich Weinmann and Jörg Wellmeyer. The MB has appointed all members for the period ranging from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2022.

“We are absolutely convinced that Supper has the right professional expertise and management skills. We think that he will do an excellent job as member of the Management Board”, explains Thomas Birtel, chairman of the ZÜBLIN Supervisory Board and the STRABAG SE Management Board. “We also want to express our gratitude to Klaus Pöllath: In his function as a member of the Management Board, he has successfully controlled the fate of ZÜBLIN with care and circumspection for more than 15 years. As Vice-President responsible for technical affairs of the German Construction Industry Federation and President of the German Society for Concrete and Construction Technology, he has had a significant influence on the German construction industry, always exercising this influence based on his expert knowledge and experience. Klaus Pöllath is not only a veritable ‘ZÜBLIN veteran’, but someone whose integrity and personal qualities are highly appreciated by everyone in the construction sector.”

Pöllath will leave ZÜBLIN in the best of conditions. In the 2017 financial year, the company’s output volume increased by 12.8% compared to the previous year, reaching approx. € 3.8 billion – approx. 73% thereof were generated in Germany, 27% abroad and approx. € 2.6 billion (69%) thereof were generated in the field of turnkey construction. At the end of 2017, the order backlog of the ZÜBLIN group reached a new record high: at approx. € 6.3 billion, it was 9.6% higher than the value in the previous year. Incoming orders decreased by approx. 12%, still remaining at a very high level at approx. € 4.4 billion. The number of employees remained almost unchanged and amounted to 13,739 by 31 December 2017.

Ed. Züblin AG started the current financial year on a wave of momentum. At the end of the 1st quarter 2018, incoming orders had increased by 24.1% compared to the previous year, amounting to € 913 million. This high increase resulted in particular from orders from abroad. As of 31 March 2018, output volume had reached a plus of 16.6% almost exclusively in Germany, increasing to € 905 million. The order backlog amounting to € 6.2 billion had increased by 9.4% compared to the previous year. The number of employees in the ZÜBLING group had remained almost constant, amounting to 13,650 as of 31 March 2018.

Among the most important incoming orders in the 2017 financial year and the first quarter of 2018 in Germany, there are the construction of the SPRINGER Quartier for Momeni Projektentwicklung GmbH in Hamburg, an assembly hall with an office area for Daimler AG and two office and business buildings in Frankfurt on the Main referred to as “The Brick”. Among the projects abroad, there are comprehensive excavation works as part of the “Deep Tunnel Sewerage System” in Singapore, the construction of the “Y Towers” in Amsterdam/Netherlands and a project for the “Candelaria Norte” mine in Chile.
