More international visitors to Stockholm in summer 2016

Summer 2016 saw a 2% increase in international guest nights in Stockholm, which is over 40,000 guests.Visitors from abroad are continuing to increase while Swedish visitors are decreasing.In total, the resulting increase is 1%.

Stockholm had a robust international growth rate of 13% in summer 2015. Now the numbers for this summer are showing steady growth, even after last year’s major increase. The fact that 2016 was a very good summer is also evidenced by visitor numbers at Arlanda, Gröna Lund and the Vasa Museum, all of which hit new records.

“Stockholm is standing strong,” says Karin Wanngård (S), Mayor of Stockholm. “That’s clear now that we’re topping last summer’s fantastic hospitality industry numbers.”

“I’m incredibly pleased that the hospitality industry in Stockholm is experiencing positive and sustainable growth,” says Thomas Andersson, CEO of Visit Stockholm.

The number of guest nights increased by 4% in non-Nordic European countries: Germany and the UK accounted for the most overnight stays, with an increase of 3% and 19%, respectively. The number of guest nights also increased in non-European countries by 13%. The US had the most guest nights and increased by 4% compared to summer 2015.
