Modular anodes for a sustainable future: circularity in electroplating and surface technology
In modern electroplating and surface treatment technology, the concept of circularity is becoming increasingly important. This presentation highlights innovative processes, products and product designs that contribute to promoting sustainability in this industry.
A central part of the research is the development of a standard that makes it possible to assemble anodes individually from a product catalog. These anodes consist of modular segments that are matched to production to ensure maximum capacity utilization. Customers can use individual segments of an anode in different baths and replace them selectively when they are worn out or mechanically damaged. This significantly extends the service life of the anode while also reducing shipping costs due to the compact segments.
Another important aspect of the work is the recovery of platinum and iridium. Establishing a recycling process for these precious metals with many customers contributes to the sustainable use of resources and closes the material cycle.
The presentation offers a comprehensive overview of innovative approaches and shows how circularity in electroplating and surface technology can be improved through targeted measures in product design and use.
