Airon Invests €450M in Sweden’s AI Infrastructure – Builds Second Factory and Launches Full-Facility Rental Model

Sweden is taking a step forward in Europe’s race for AI infrastructure. Tech company Airon is investing €450 million in an expansion in Lidköping, Sweden, where it will both upgrade its existing site and construct a new, 20 MW AI factory – the largest of its kind in the country. Airon also became the first to offer entire AI factories for rent, designed specifically for sovereign high-performance compute.

"We're not just building data-centers. We're building factories – with racks, superpods and world-class GPUs that we own and operate ourselves. Organizations can now run dedicated AI workloads at scale, with full control over performance, cost, and data. Airon built its first factory in 2020 with private bare-metal AI infrastructure powered by NVIDIA. As demand for secure and high-speed capacity continues to grow, the Swedish company is now scaling up. The original facility will be upgraded with 1,700 additional GPUs, while a second, 20,000-square-meter factory is planned to house 10,000 GPUs. The two sites will deliver isolated AI compute to clients across sectors.

Autonomous by design
Airon operates with a vertically integrated model. This ensures zero multi-tenancy and military grade security – especially relevant for enterprises, public agencies and research institutions with high security and performance demands. Compared to cloud-based solutions, Airon reduces costs by up to 60%. Despite their scale, the new facilities will not increase load on the local power grid. They are optimized for energy efficiency, drawing on existing infrastructure and integrating waste heat recovery into the local district heating system.

Construction of the new factory is expected to begin following the final permitting process, with operations targeted to start in 2026. The facilities will be offered as fully dedicated or modular rentals, depending on client needs.
