Press release -

245 nominees for the 2024 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

A total of 245 candidates from 68 countries have been nominated for the 2024 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, including 66 candidates new from previous years. The list of nominees is one of the most complete rosters of the leading children’s book creators and reading promoters from around the world. The laureate will be announced on 9 April 2024.

”We are happy to see so many new names on the list, as well as names from more countries than last year. Children and young people need to have access to literature that offers perspectives on the world and different cultures. For those who want to discover new authors and illustrators or gain an international view of children’s literature, the nominee list is a fantastic point of entry,” said Boel Westin, jury chair.

The list of nominees includes authors, illustrators and storytellers from all over the world. Also on the list are reading promoters, whose work can inspire concrete efforts to stimulate young people’s interest in reading.

Between now and the award announcement, the jury will evaluate the nominees’ work and select a laureate.
