Press Invitation: Announcement of the 2013 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

You are cordially invited to attend the announcement of this year’s recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA).

The announcement takes place on Tuesday March 26 at 1:00 pm at Astrid Lindgren’s Näs in Vimmerby, Sweden.

The announcement is opened by Kerstin Brunnberg, chair of the Swedish Arts Council. Larry Lempert, chairman of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award jury, will announce the 2013 award recipient/recipients at 1:00 pm. The announcement is followed by a short presentation of the award recipient/recipients.  

The announcement and presentation will be broadcast online at www.alma.se/en and relayed live to the international Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

Interviews

We shall do our best to ensure that the recipient/recipients are available for interview by phone. The award office can also provide contact information for people and organisations with expert knowledge of the recipient/recipients. Please contact Communication Officer Helene Andersson for interviews with jury chairman Larry Lempert or other members of the jury.

Travel

You can join a specially chartered bus travelling from Stockholm to Vimmerby and back on 26 March. The bus will leave Stockholm at 8:00 am, arriving back around 6:00 pm. To reserve a seat on the bus, please email helene.andersson@alma.se or call +46 8 519 264 17 no later than March 22.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature. The award, which amounts to SEK 5 million, is awarded annually to a single recipient or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in Reading promotion may be rewarded. The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature, and in children's rights, globally. An expert jury selects the winners from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations worldwide. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish Arts Council.

Children have the right to great stories

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. With a prize of five million Swedish kronor, it is the largest award of its kind. Administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.
