Press invitation: Award Ceremony for the 2013 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

Welcome to follow the official award ceremony for the 2013 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) at Stockholm Concert Hall on May 27. The award is presented to Argentinian illustrator Isol and is presented by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and the Swedish Minister for Culture, Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.

The award ceremony starts at 6:00 pm, all seats must be taken at 5:45 pm. The program duration is just over an hour. The compere for the evening is actress Annika Hallin.

Video content in broadcast quality with highlights, soundbites and B-rolls including interviews with Isol and jury chairman Larry Lempert will be available at www.thenewsmarket.com during the evening.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest award for children's and young adult literature. The award, which amounts to SEK 5 million, is given annually to a single recipient or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in reading promotion may be rewarded. The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature and to strengthen children's rights globally. An expert jury selects the winners from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations worldwide. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was founded by the Swedish government in 2002 and is administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. With a prize of five million Swedish kronor, it is the largest award of its kind. Administrated by the Swedish Arts Council.
