Binogi has added Ukrainian as a language on its multilingual digital learning platform
In response to the current crisis in Ukraine and the mass exodus of over 3 million people, Binogi helps educators prepare and ensure that children will still have access to education
In an effort to support teachers around the world who will welcome more than 1.5 million Ukrainian children to their classrooms, Binogi has added Ukrainian as a language on its multilingual digital learning platform.
A growing international community of school boards and municipalities from Sweden, Germany, Finland and Canada are using Binogi on a daily basis and preparing for the arrival of Ukrainian newcomers. Not only is Binogi used during the school day but also at home when students practise and consolidate their learning or explore new concepts. Opportunities for parents to engage with what their children are learning and connect with the school are enhanced through Binogi’s multilingual learning platform.
Binogi’s mission is to educate students of the world while recognizing and honouring all languages, including Ukrainian. “This is an unbelievable global tragedy that will have far reaching consequences. As a company that creates multilingual educational software for children, we are reminded of how important our mission is and continuing to do what we do everyday will have an amazing effect”, says Andrew Anningson, Binogi’s Chief Content Officer. “We are working to incorporate Ukrainian subtitles in our first run of auto translation - our hope is to be able to support teachers when they begin teaching new immigrants due to the conflict in the Ukraine.”
Binogi has a history of being responsive to the needs of the local and international communities. In response to the mass migration of Syrian refugees in 2015, Binogi launched Språkprojektet (The Language Project) in Sweden as teachers welcomed and supported Arabic speaking newcomers in their classrooms. With the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus In 2020, Binogi opened up its platforms in Sweden, Germany, Finland, and Canada to make its content accessible to all teachers, students, and parents in an attempt to limit interruptions to education as a result of the pandemic. As of October 2021, in partnership with ICRC, Binogi is making learning opportunities accessible to Rohingya, Somali, and Afghan children in a refugee camp in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
Now, with the inclusion of Ukrainian on Binogi’s multilingual digital learning platform, we hope in some small way to provide a sense of comfort and familiarity for Ukrainian families around the world as migrant children will eventually return to routines of going to school, accessing learning opportunities, and being children. “This is proof that we can truly change the lives of students all around the world,” says Gustaf Hård af Segerstad, Binogi's Chief Operating Officer.
