Unique Science Park Collaboration Equips Swedish Companies Against Digital Threats

The need for practical knowledge in cybersecurity is growing alongside digitalization. This spring, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from across Sweden participated in a free cybersecurity training program – an initiative made possible by the national project Sweden Secure Tech Hub.

This collaboration between some of Sweden’s leading science parks – including Linköping Science Park, Lindholmen Science Park, Ideon Science Park, Kista Science Park, Luleå Science Park, and Blue Science Park in Karlskrona – enabled the training to be offered in multiple locations across the country.

Practical Training with National Reach

The program combined self-paced learning with four instructor-led workshops, providing participants with both theoretical foundations and practical tools to address current and future cybersecurity challenges. Workshops were held in strategic locations, including Gothenburg, Linköping, Karlskrona, Stockholm, Lund, and Luleå, making the training easily accessible for companies nationwide.

“This unique collaboration, involving over 100 participants and six science parks, has allowed us to reach companies across Sweden and truly make a difference,” says Beatrice Magnusson, project manager for Sweden Secure Tech Hub.

From Insight to Action

Participants not only gained a solid understanding of cybersecurity but also acquired practical insights that could be directly applied to their operations. Richard Brattlund, Web Project Manager at The Swedish Internet Foundation and one of the participants, highlighted the value of the program's practical focus:

“One of the most valuable takeaways from the course was the discussions with other participants. Hearing professionals from other companies describe the same challenges I face daily—yet from entirely different perspectives and with varying scopes—was truly refreshing. After years of simply adhering to my organization's security policies and guidelines, it was also enlightening to learn about alternative frameworks and approaches. This experience prompted me to critically reflect on the models we currently use and provided a deeper understanding of the rationale behind the policies we have today.”

A Collective Effort for a Safer Future

Sweden Secure Tech Hub is a national innovation hub for cybersecurity, helping SMEs develop safer digital products and solutions. Through collaboration between science parks and universities, the project has demonstrated how joint efforts can have a significant impact – both for individual companies and for Sweden’s overall digital security.
