Boutique Hotel Re-opens for 2010 Season with Renovated Rooms and Exclusive Wine Club
To follow up on its roaring first year, c/o The Maidstone hotel in East Hampton, New York will re-open for the 2010 season on Aprill 2nd with new, original designs in seventeen rooms. Jenny Ljungberg, Proud Owner, purchased the landmark property in November 2008, and this marks the second phase of her hotel re-design.
After closing for the winter months, the hotel will unveil room decor developed to entice hotel guests, connoisseurs of Scandinavian culture, and travelers. Ljungberg explains, “We hope new and returning guests will be comforted by our attention to detail and share in our enthusiasm for revitalizing historic properties while continuing to provide something beyond the everyday hotel experience.” The unique guest rooms inspired by Scandinavian luminaries are a continuation of Ljungberg’s 2009 collaboration with Hotel Designer Nadia Tolstoy when the two developed the hotel’s lounge, restaurant, and common areas. All the new rooms are completely different, encouraging return visits, conversation and intrigue.
The new designs include tributes to iconic designers, historical figures and cultural figures. Ljungberg comments, “Our heritage is full of exciting cultural reference. Each room sparks a dialogue with guests that will nurture their desire to live a cultivated life.” The Carl von Linné room features shades of green, botanical prints and wallpapers, along with antique birdcages that instantly convey the world of the 18th century Swedish botanist. Danish furniture designer Verner Panton comes to life in a room with bright, vibrant colors and multiple curvilinear furnishings. c/o Hotels’ love of storytelling is evident in the Astrid Lindgren room which immerses guests in the adventures of literary heroine Pippi Longstocking. Additional highlights include odes to Eero Saarinen and Arne Jacobsen, North and South Pole explorer Roald Amunsden, and scientist/philanthropist Alfred Nobel. Tolstoy adds, “We selected personalities who conveyed a solid design direction, ensuring each room would have a character of its own. It’s amazing how the ethos of the Scandinavian designers we chose continues to define what is considered modern today.”
April also marks the inauguration of Cellars at The Living Room, a membership based wine storage facility that will allow wine aficionados to store vintages in the hotel’s hi-tech, climate controlled cellar. Members will be able to enjoy bottle purchases coordinated by The Living Room Sommelier Kelly Matis and Wine Director Chris Miller. When making a reservation, members can arrange for bottles to be prepared ahead of time to accompany their meal.
Purchased in 2008 by Sweden’s c/o Hotels, c/o The Maidstone hotel is tailored to the guest who appreciates sophisticated design, gourmet dining, and personalized service. The hotel’s restaurant, The Living Room, and its Cozy Lounge are leading proponents of the slow food movement. The experience enhanced by one of East End’s most substantial wine cellars.
