LA Dreams 3: Light Touch

In recent years, the dream factory of Los Angeles, which is most famous for its pleasant climate and easy-going lifestyle, has also managed to make itself an ideal environment for artists. Now, a new generation is coming into their own, shaped by both Silicon Valley and their unfiltered enthusiasm over the potential of painting. LA Dreams 3, which offers a snapshot of the dynamic art scene of California through the works of nine brilliant, new artists, was curated by Emilia Yin.

As suggested by its title, LA Dreams 3: Light Touch, is the third presentation of works from the Los Angeles art scene at CFHILL, and seeks to highlight a place that many feel is the focal point of the art world today. The city’s pleasant climate, decent studio rental rates, generous access to space, characteristic, flowing light, and permissive, creative atmosphere are just some of the reasons why the flourishing art scene of Los Angeles has attracted so much creative talent over the last few years. Like a chain reaction, new galleries, private collections, museums, and some of the largest art fairs, including Frieze Los Angeles, have followed.

This selection of works was made in collaboration with curator Emilia Yin, who has spent years leading up to this exhibition tracking down the finest talent that has sought artistic success in the city. Several of the participating artists have already started to attract significant interest way beyond the limits of LA.

“I chose these nine artists to represent different backgrounds and different cultures, and how they all consider themselves to be Los Angelenos, where they find their voice in the city and make works that are in dialogue with the community here,” Emilia Yin explains.

Participating artists: Jessica Taylor Bellamy, Carrie Cook, Erica Mahinay, Yassi Mazandi, Alex McAdoo, Kira Maria Shewfelt, Ilona Szwarc, Yoab Vera and Astra Huimeng Wang.

The exhibition will be shown October 7 – November 4.
