ChromoGenics Awarded 4,000 m² ConverLight® Dynamic Glass Order for Central Yards, Henderson Land Group’s flagship development on the New Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong

ChromoGenics AB (publ), a leading provider of smart dynamic glass solutions, has received an order for approximately 4,000 square metres of ConverLight® dynamic glass for Central Yards, a new mixed-use development on the New Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong. The project is developed by Henderson Land, a leading property group, focusing on Hong Kong and mainland China.

Central Yards, deeply rooted in Hong Kong, is a transformative 1.6 million sq ft development that redefines the relationship between the built environment, public space and Victoria Harbour. Designed as a people‑centric “groundscraper,” the project will reinvent Central by offering a dynamic blend of premium offices, experiential retail, cultural venues and extensive green and public spaces, with Phase 1 scheduled to open in 2027.

Enabling Central Yards’ vision for performance, openness and sustainability

Conceived as a new global harbourfront icon, Central Yards places people, sustainability and innovation at the heart of its design. Its sweeping harbour‑facing façades are intended to frame uninterrupted panoramic views of Victoria Harbour, one of Hong Kong’s most iconic natural assets. ConverLight® dynamic glass enables this architectural ambition by allowing large, highly transparent glazed areas while actively controlling solar heat and reducing glare—preserving visual clarity without heavy tinting or exterior shading.

In parallel, the dynamic functionality supports lower energy use and carbon footprint, contributing to improved indoor comfort in Hong Kong’s demanding subtropical climate. These performance benefits align with Central Yards’ sustainability ambitions, with the development having secured or registered for nine leading global green and smart building certifications, including BEAM Plus, LEED, WELL, SITES, SmartScore and WiredScore.

Innovation for sustainable cities

“Central Yards represents exactly the type of forward‑looking development that ConverLight® is designed for,” said Fredrik Fränding, CEO at ChromoGenics. “The project combines scale, architectural ambition and strong sustainability targets. Dynamic glass allows designers and developers to move beyond static façade compromises and instead optimise daylight, energy performance and comfort in real time—an increasingly important capability for dense, high‑performance cities like Hong Kong.”

Design and project partners

Central Yards was conceived by Henderson Land in collaboration with an international collective of renowned design and architectural studios, namely Lead8, AL_A, UNStudio, PWP Landscape Architecture, Speirs Major, Urbis Limited and other creative forces. The project’s engineering team includes ARUP and J. Roger Preston Limited, supporting the delivery of the development’s architectural and sustainability ambitions.

A global reference for building innovation

Spanning approximately 400 metres along Victoria Harbour, Central Yards will become Hong Kong’s longest continuous architectural structure and a new reference point for sustainable, mixed‑use developments internationally. The selection of ConverLight® dynamic glass reinforces the project’s position at the forefront of building innovation, demonstrating how advanced façade technologies can support both environmental goals and exceptional architectural expression.
