WeWork announces debut in Sweden

The leading provider of community workspaces around the globe will open its first Stockholm location in early 2019.

The American community platform WeWork continues to expand its operations outside of the US. In early 2019, the leading provider of shared office space around the globe will open its doors in Stockholm, offering office and community space for +1000 future members.

WeWork was founded in 2010 with the mission of creating a world where people work to make a life, not just a living. With its community and services, WeWork aims to support enterprises, business founders and start-ups to connect, collaborate creatively and extend their networks. In addition to shared and private office space, WeWork offers its members a variety of workplace amenities and events – such as “lunch & learn" sessions, language courses and yoga lessons – for networking, knowledge sharing and wellness.

“Stockholm is home to one of the leading tech scenes in the world and has an incredibly innovative and pioneering spirit. Our mission is to give our members the space, community, services, and flexibility they need to bring energy and inspiration to their work, while fostering collaborations with like-minded people who can help their businesses grow and succeed,” says Wybo Wijnbergen, General Manager of WeWork Northern Europe.

“WeWork is a global company with a local playbook. Our Stockholm team will develop high-amenity best-in-class spaces through a combination of solid local knowledge and lessons learned from our over 270+ locations around the world. By expanding WeWork in the Nordics, WeWork members will benefit from more location options and a wider group of members from various industries who can share business ideas and utilize each other’s skill sets”, he continues.

The first location to open, at Regeringsgatan 27, will be in the heart of the city centre. This convenient location is also located right next to the Central Station, so members can travel easily throughout the city. An agreement has been signed with the property owner AMF Fastigheter in the quarter Urban Escape.

WeWork membership comes with a wide range of activities in addition to basic services such as internet access, cleaning, and furniture. Members can choose from a variety of membership plans – from flexible office space in common areas, to individual offices for larger groups. The local team gets to know all members personally in order to customize the daily range of activities.

”I am very happy that WeWork establishes in Stockholm and chooses the quarter Urban Escape. That is an acknowledgement that Stockholm and our quarter stands out well in the international competition”, says Mats Hederos, CEO of AMF Fastigheter. ”With WeWork we close the circle and establish that we have Sweden’s most interesting and dynamic tenant mix” adds Niklas Haglund, project manager of Urban Escape Stockholm.

“WeWork focuses heavily on creating attractive environments to lead the shared office industry. It is extremely satisfying to have helped enable WeWork creating an extraordinary office in the very core of Stockholm“, says Tom Wadegård, Head of Tenant Representation at Cushman & Wakefield in Sweden, the exclusive real estate adviser representing WeWork.

”The city of Stockholm has assisted WeWork with the establishment process in Stockholm. We are delighted that a large international company identifies the leading position of Stockholm within the start up scene and specifically the tech entrepeneurs and companies, and therefore choose to open their operation here“, says Anna Gissler, CEO of Stockholm Invest.

Today, WeWork has more than 50,000 members in Europe, spreading across the UK and Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Spain. Across the world, WeWork connects more than 253,000 members at 274 locations in 22 countries and 74 cities. Next to supporting young companies through a work community and an inspiring environment, almost a third of WeWork’s global membership consists of large enterprise companies.
