DHL secures five-year contract with SCA Timber Supply Ltd

(London, UK – 26 May 2006 ) DHL Exel Supply Chain has won a five-year contract with SCA Timber Supply Limited, a UK subsidiary of SCA Forest Products, one of the business areas of the global SCA Group (www.sca.com). Commencing in April 2006, DHL Exel Supply Chain will manage the national transport for SCA Timber Supply, delivering standard and developed timber products to DIY retailers and builders merchants across the UK and the Irish Republic from SCA Timber Supply’s national distribution centre in Stoke-on-Trent. This is the first time SCA Timber Supply has outsourced their logistics operation. The contract will see DHL Exel Supply Chain manage transport operations, planning and reporting. The operation on behalf of SCA Timber Supply will be managed using DHL Exel Supply Chain’s bespoke freight exchange and ProRoute systems which identify backhaul opportunities and are designed to eliminate empty vehicle runs thereby optimizing transport routes. These two solutions are expected to reduce cost and environmental impact on the roads.
