First bank in Germany, OLB, to sign with Doconomy for CO2 impact on users everyday transactions

Doconomy has signed an agreement with German bank OLB, Oldenburgische Landesbank, to provide the bank with an app that help their clients become climate smart and see how their consumption affects the climate. Through the partnership with OLB, Doconomy makes its entry with the Åland Index impact methodology in Germany. Åland Index is already used by several banks in the Nordics, Italy and the U.S.

"Not only OLB Bank’s logo has been green for more than 125 years now, also in our business activities we generally attach great importance to sustainability and social responsibility", says Peter Karst, General Manager of OLB Bank, "in society as a whole, and especially among our clients, we are experiencing aspects of sustainability becoming increasingly important. Entering into partnership with Doconomy reflects our ambition to supply customers who want to find out more about their impact on the environment and take action on climate change with a state-of-the-art-solution."

Raising awareness of the interrelation between consumer behavior and environmental impact is a critical element of climate action. Thus, OLB Bank plans to use Doconomy’s expertise and supply customers with an optional tool integrated in their mobile banking app that tracks the CO2 footprint connected with each individual transaction and supplies a convenient dashboard that displays all relevant information.

As a market leader in developing smart transaction climate impact services Doconomy can provide banks with plug and play off the shelf-solutions. These are easily implemented in the customers own technical platform or tailor-made for banks and card providers with more specific demands. All services aim to give the bank’s clients the tools to understand the true cost of their consumption, stimulate change of behavior and enable everyday climate action.

“Germany is at the very forefront of climate awareness and for Doconomy this collaboration is an important step in reaching our ambition to enable 500 million persons to understand their carbon footprint and enable them to reduce it. We are most proud to partner with OLB as a first mover in the German market and look forward to the positive effects of this collaboration!” says Mathias Wikström, CEO Doconomy.

The ongoing pandemic has brutally shown that change of behavior can be rapid, data substantiated and successful if so demanded. More and more people are connecting the dots between a healthy planet and a healthy life. In this ambition tracking and measuring the carbon footprint of consumption is an important step. Around 60% of each person’s carbon impact derives from private consumption, a fact that more people need to relate to and act upon. As an acknowledged partner to the UNFCCC, Doconomy is on a mission to create greater awareness of how individuals around the world can be a part of the solution, reducing our impact by 2030.
