OSM Thome - DSM2025 Silver Sponsor
Interview with Mr. Tommy Olofsen, Chief Marine Services Officer, OSM Thome
OSM Thome supports DSM2025 as Silver Sponsor. What contributed to make this decision?
Our decision to support DSM2025 as a Silver Sponsor builds on a long-standing relationship with the event and the Donsö maritime community. OSM Thome has proudly sponsored DSM in previous years, and returning as a sponsor for 2025 reflects our ongoing commitment to the Scandinavian shipping cluster and to the values that DSM represents.
With our headquarters in Arendal, Norway, and operations in 22 countries, OSM Thome’s Scandinavian heritage is a fundamental part of who we are. DSM is more than an industry exhibition - it’s a gathering that fosters genuine collaboration, innovation, and relationship-building in a personal setting. Supporting DSM means supporting the maritime industry at its roots, and investing in an event that promotes sustainable development, knowledge sharing, and future-facing solutions. DSM brings all this together.
What makes Donsö Shipping Meet different from other exhibitions in your opinion?
DSM fosters genuine connections in an intimate, community-driven setting. It brings together decision-makers, innovators, and maritime professionals in an environment built on trust, tradition, and collaboration.
At OSM Thome, we enjoy the quality of interaction with both new and existing clients. Whether through one-on-one meetings or insightful talks, DSM encourages authentic conversations that lead to long-term relationships. It’s this rare combination of professional depth and personal connection that makes DSM so effective, and so memorable.
What are your expectations for DSM2025?
We expect DSM2025 to be a powerful platform for dialogue, relationship-building, and showcasing the capabilities of the OSM Thome organisation. At the end of 2024, we acquired Klaveness Ship Management, a move which has allowed us to explore new ways to modernise ship management through new technology and digitalisation.
With a total fleet of approximately 1,000 vessels under management, and employing around 29,000 seafarers and 1,600 shore-based professionals, we are excited to engage both new and existing clients to demonstrate how our combined scale and expertise can enhance fleet performance.
As a major ship management company and maritime services provider, we look forward to exchanging ideas on major industry topics such as decarbonisation, regulatory change, crew welfare, and digital transformation. Most importantly, we expect DSM2025 to reinforce the importance of collaboration in navigating the future of maritime.
What do you find are the opportunities and challenges in the shipping industry today?
The shipping industry is at a critical point of transformation. Among the biggest challenges are the demands of decarbonisation, the rapid pace of digitalisation, and evolving regulations around emissions, ESG reporting, and cybersecurity. At the same time, these challenges are also the industry’s greatest opportunities.
As OSM Thome, our scale allows us to invest in green technologies, advanced training programmes, and smarter operational models. We can deliver economies of scale, offer specialised services, and drive innovation across every segment we serve, from tankers and bulk carriers to offshore and cruise. With the right partnerships and a forward-looking mindset, we see this era as a chance to reshape shipping into a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient industry.
How would you describe DSM in one sentence?
DSM is a one-of-a-kind maritime event where meaningful connections, shared values, and forward-looking ideas come together to shape the future of shipping.
And finally, do you prefer a sailboat or a motorboat for recreation, and why so?
I prefer a sailboat! I have enjoyed sailing since I was very young, initially through various competitions and now more for leisure. I enjoy both day trips and longer holidays on sailboats, and I have cruised in Denmark, Sweden, Greece, and the Caribbean Islands. My own boat is a Swedish-built Hallberg-Rassy, which I believe are the best sailboats for recreational sailing.
