Press release -

The European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery chooses Stockholm and Kistamässan as Congress destination for 2026

It has been decided that the ECTES in-person congress will be at Kistamässan, Stockholm, for its 2026 edition.

The ECTES congress is managed by the European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES). The primary objective of the congress is to increase global awareness about the significance of trauma care, promote trauma education worldwide, foster the development of trauma systems and share knowledge and expertise to enhance the quality of care for injured patients across the world. The 2026 edition will be held at Kistamässan in Stockholm.

Besides the sheer beauty and unique atmosphere of Stockholm, the outstanding professionality and support of the hosting team convinced us that ECTES 2026 at Kista Exhibition & Congress Centre is meant to be a success. We were especially impressed by the infrastructure of both Stockholm in general, as well as of Kista in particular – and the amazing ambition of our Swedish colleagues to organize this congress on an international level” says Dr. Klaus W. Wendt General Secretary of ESTES.

Kistamässan is located within reach of international airports and the city centre of Stockholm. With roughly 10 000 square meters of flexible meeting space and 300 integrated hotel rooms, Kistamässan is built for congresses, exhibitions, and events. When looking for a suitable venue, Kistamässan fit the requirements of Shahin Mohseni, chair of Visceral Trauma and vice-chair of Emergency Surgery ESTES and Per Loftås, vice-chair of the Swedish Trauma Society and consultant surgeon for the Centre for Teaching and Research in Disaster Medicine and Traumatology.

Holding the congress in Sweden will immensely contribute to the nation's trauma and emergency care, which have gained increasing attention from the government, regions, hospitals, and various specialities involved in the treatment of severely ill and injured patients.” says Shahin Mohseni

I want to highlight the ongoing projects aimed at assessing and planning Sweden's readiness to respond to mass casualty situations. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in interpersonal violence in the country over the last decade leading to a type of injuries which Swedish physicians have not had much experience with. The congress's significance lies in its educational value, building relationships, and learning from other countries' experiences in the field” concludes Per Loftås.

The European Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery will be arranged at Kistamässan the 17-19th of May 2026.
