Green hydrogen in Trollhättan
Libra Horizon, a joint venture between Scandinavian Horizon and EnBW Sweden, today announced that Trollhättan has been selected as the location for its first green hydrogen project.

The planned 5 MW facility will produce up to 775 tons of green hydrogen per year, reducing CO₂ emissions by more than 9,000 tons annually. The hydrogen will supply both industrial users and the transport sector – two areas where decarbonization is especially challenging.
Why Trollhättan?
Trollhättan was chosen because of its strong culture of innovation, a municipality with a clear climate agenda, and the role of Trollhättan Energi as a pioneer in sustainable energy solutions. Their involvement ensures that the project becomes part of a larger integrated energy system, where waste heat from hydrogen production will be fed into the city’s district heating network.

From a local perspective, Trollhättan Energi sees the project as an important step in developing a more flexible and future-oriented energy system.

Another key feature of the facility will be its flexible operation.
By leveraging available grid capacity that is normally hard to match with conventional customers the project can optimize production at the best times without displacing other users or future developments. This approach not only enables cost-efficient hydrogen production but also ensures a smarter use of the existing grid, supporting both renewable integration and overall system stability.
