Halda Watch Co takes the lead in space

Halda celebrates a historic milestone with its debut in timekeeping instruments certified for spaceflight. In February 2011, the first of the limited edition of 128 Halda Space Discovery watches was handed over to Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang. The revolutionary watch concept presents groundbreaking materials, technologies, and engineering accomplishments.

The presentation of the very first modern Halda watch took place at a closed ceremony at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm on February 17th. Aside the numbered time piece, astronaut Fuglesang also received a specially designed Flight Strap for his travel to space featuring his name and the flag of his home country, Sweden. 

It is a true honor to provide leading astronauts with the Halda Space Discovery. It is the ultimate proof that we have succeeded in creating a product that actually works – and makes a real difference – in the extreme conditions in space.

About Halda Watch Company

Halda Watch Company was founded in 1887 by Swedish watch-maker Henning Hammarlund. It quickly became a worldwide success known for its advanced fine mechanics and quality with Halda watches featured on prominent people such as HMK Oscar II and prominent Swedish writer August Strindberg. The watches were also honored with several international awards in competition with the very best watch producers at that time. In 2009, Halda Watch Company was brought back to life by watch entrepreneur Mikael Sandström, through the  introduction of the concept and plans for the modern Halda – the Halda Space Discovery, Limited Edition. The Haldas of the 21st century follows the devise of its founding father, Henning Hammarlund – to never compromise with quality or function. For its’ manifestation of advanced and pioneering technical engineering and fine mechanics, the Halda Space Discovery was honored with a placement in the Swedish pavilion at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. In 2011, it features as part of the world touring exhibition ‘NASA – A Human Adventure.
