Carolina Klüft blows the yellow whistle against world hunger

The successful Swedish athlete signs the petition

Carolina Klüft, the gold medal winning Swedish athlete, has showed her support to the world’s hungry by signing the petition 1billionhungry. The event took place during the celebration of the UN Day at the Central Station in Stockholm on October 22. “As a matter of course, I wanted to sign the petition to show my support on such an important issue”, said the famous athlete.

Nearly one billion people suffer from hunger and chronic malnutrition in the world today. The 1billionhungry-campaign is calling on people to express their anger over the hunger situation and put pressure on politicians to end hunger by signing the petition.

Carolina Klüft was considered to be one of the world's best heptathlete and became at the age of 22 the youngest athlete ever to win gold medals in all big international competitions; Olympics, World Cup and European Championship. Today she has left her heptathlon career behind to focus on the long jump and triple jump.

Carolina Klüft has for a long time been involved in international issues, a commitment that began before she became a well-known athlete. In addition to supporting the 1billionhungry campaign, she is a goodwill ambassador for the Swedish United Nations Association and she also works with the international organization Plan. Additionally, she has started her own foundation, the No Excuses Foundation, which supports various social projects around the world.

By signing the petition against hunger, Carolina Klüft did what more than 1.8 million people have done before her. Others celebrities that have signed the petition include the soccer player Marta Vieira da Silva, the athlete Carl Lewis and actors like Jeremy Irons and Susan Sarandon.
