TIME HORIZONS – Färgfabriken presents the theme for the Architecture Triennial 2027
The Architecture Triennial is an international platform for architecture, returning every three years with a new theme, developed in close collaboration with the triennial’s partners.
The Architecture Triennial offers an opportunity to come together around issues that concern us all – and the multifaceted perspectives of architecture allow us to explore everything from history to possible futures. That is why we want to examine architecture’s many relationships with time, through the various scales, processes, material flows, and planning horizons it engages with.

Time Horizons
The theme for the 2027 Architecture Triennial is Time Horizons. It explores how time is constructed, renegotiated, and takes shape in the built environment. What does time mean from the perspective of architecture’s horizons and how is time materialized when it transitions into architecture? How slowly should architecture move in relation to an ever-growing and demanding societal development? And how quickly can architecture act in an era when destruction escalates, whether through demolition or war?
Which long-term and short-term horizons must architecture consider in the transformation of our living environments towards a sustainable future? Perspectives that could range from the time scales of geology to the life cycle of a building.
About the Architecture Triennial
The Architecture Triennial was initiated by Färgfabriken in the autumn of 2024 as a recurring international platform for architecture. It provides space for the diversity, possibilities, and exploratory nature of architecture, and serves as a meeting point for questions concerning the built environment and the future.
The Architecture Triennial engages both professionals and the general public through exhibitions and a broad program of talks, workshops, and hands-on activities that encourage reflection, imagination, and action. With the Architecture Triennial, Färgfabriken aims to help shape the agenda for the future of architecture.
Time Horizons will take place from April 17 to June 27, 2027
Upcoming
Here’s what is happening in the project in 2026 as part of the preparatory work:
- Together with Copenhagen Architecture Forum, the Estonian Centre for Architecture, the National Institute of Architecture in Lithuania, and the Architecture and Design Museum in Helsinki, Färgfabriken has established the Nordic-Baltic network Network for Interinstitutional Architectures (NIA). The network, which brings together directors and curators, will meet at Färgfabriken for the second time on April 16–17.
- Neringa Forest Architecture (NFA) is a Lithuanian collective that, through interdisciplinary projects, explores the forest as a cultural and political landscape shaped by human interventions and ecological processes. In 2023, NFA designed, curated, and produced the Children’s Forest Pavilion in Lithuania for the Venice Architecture Biennale. In April, NFA will be in residence at Färgfabriken to develop a proposal for the 2027 Architecture Triennial. Their work aligns closely with the triennial’s themes of time horizons and sustainable futures. By combining research, art, and education, NFA contributes to a critical reflection on how architecture and culture can shape a more conscious relationship with the landscape – particularly in a Nordic and Baltic context. Supported by the Lithuanian Culture Institute.
- Ongoing collaborations with KTH, including a workshop exploring the question “What is an architecture exhibition?”, with participation from NIA-network.
- Färgfabriken will announce an Open Call for participation in next year’s Triennial.
The program will be regularly updated.

Färgfabriken is a foundation and an exhibition space for contemporary art and architecture. We produce and showcase exhibitions in a former factory building in the old industrial area of Lövholmen, where we have operated since 1995. Färgfabriken is also a space for talks, workshops and other cultural activities. By working experimentally and across borders, bringing together different experiences and skills, Färgfabriken creates the conditions for new ideas, knowledge and artistic creations.
