Ferroamp’s EnergyHub gets smarter for charging electric vehicles

With the next release of system software, EnergyHub can start controlling charging boxes according to the current communication standard for charging equipment, OCPP. This means that home-charging of electric vehicles can be optimised and problem-free all year round.

Ferroamp’s EnergyHub, with patented dynamic phase balancing that protects the property's main fuse, already provides efficiency for the property's electricity consumption. The integration of the communication standard for EV charging equipment, OCPP 1.6-J, which comes with the release of system software in December, enables control of charging boxes for electric vehicles directly via EnergyHub, as well as optimal charging of electric vehicles. This new feature will be available to both new and existing EnergyHub owners via over the air updates (OTA) and visualised in EnergyCloud.

In addition to EnergyHub providing hassle-free electric vehicle charging, it also usually means a reduction in mains electricity network fees, partly down to a lower-rated main fuse normally being sufficient thanks to phase balancing. As more and more electricity network owners introduce power tariffs, savings for homeowners in these areas increase further, as EnergyHub can limit the power peaks that otherwise occur during charging.
