Press release -

Flower strengthens its leading position in battery system optimization

Flower announces a new partnership with Kalmar Energi to strengthen the local power grid with a new innovative battery storage system. This is the first of many exciting projects from the leading company in energy resource optimization and management in 2024 — an important initiative where innovative technologies pave the way for the energy transition.

Flower was founded in 2020 by John Diklev and has rapidly established itself as one of the industry leaders in Sweden. The company has developed a platform for optimization of energy assets, making it possible to control the energy flows in electricity systems

In a new partnership with Kalmar Energi, Flower will optimize a large-scale and innovative battery storage facility with a capacity of 5 MW/5 MWh, which will be located at one of Kalmar Energi’s substations in the city of Kalmar, Sweden. The partnership is an important step towards promoting innovative energy solutions, and is operational and providing ancillary services as of Thursday February 15, 2024.

“This is a very exciting project, focusing on learning a lot about both technology and the ancillary services market. As a local energy company, we believe it’s important that we break barriers and create conditions for local contribution,” said Viktor Olofsson, spokesperson for Kalmar Energi.

The initiative promotes sustainable and innovative solutions for energy production and power grid stability. Together, Kalmar Energi and Flower are paving the way for a more sustainable future for the region, while sharing knowledge and enabling technological development.

“We’re humbled that Kalmar Energi has trusted us to optimize their large battery. It feels great to work with a company within the energy transition that dares to invest in new technology, which in turn paves the way for the energy system of tomorrow," said John Diklev, CEO of Flower.

For Flower, this is the first of several projects planned for the first half of 2024, both in Sweden and internationally. With its AI-based Virtual Power Plant (VPP), an optimization and trading software for all types of energy assets, Flower is working innovatively to improve the energy system of the future.

“We have an extremely important time ahead of us where we see a great demand for our solutions, enabling a reliable and predictable electricity system, both for customers and grid owners. We look forward to an exciting 2024," Diklev concludes.

Flower - Energizing tomorrow

We enable the energy system of tomorrow by combining pioneering technology with flexible assets, allowing clean energy to power society

The energy system of tomorrow relies on a high share of renewable energy production, and with that comes a new set of uncertainties. Grid owners, producers and consumers are all affected by these uncertainties, and enabling that system relies on stability in grid frequency, prices and volume. Combining and solving these problems is what we call flexibility.
