Fujitsu and Qumulo Collaborate to Deliver Enterprise File Storage Solutions

News facts:

  • New partnership designed to tackle the explosion in unstructured file data that is causing a storage headache for digital businesses
  • Fujitsu to incorporate Qumulo’s hybrid cloud file storage software into its storage portfolio
  • Partnership enables unifying unstructured data from edge, core and cloud, into a single solution

Munich, January 29, 2019 – An explosion in unstructured data is one of the biggest headaches of the digital era – with digital businesses tackling ever-increasing amounts of information that needs to be stored and accessed on different locations and applications. Fujitsu is teaming up with Qumulo, a leader in hybrid cloud file storage1, to provide a seamless combination of the security and dependability of on-premises scale-out NAS storage with the flexibility and cost advantages of cloud storage.

The new partnership makes it easier for organizations to cope with ever-increasing amounts of data, which is generated at a faster rate than ever before. Fujitsu is incorporating Qumulo’s hybrid cloud file storage softwareinto its storage portfolio, to develop a modern file storage solution that will enable to address unstructured data needs from consolidation, to visibility, processing and retention.

Key drivers in today’s era of unprecedented data growth include rich media and video from surveillance cameras, LIDAR and diagnostic imaging, and the Internet of Things. This unstructured data is often stored in different geographic locations - such as the edge, core and cloud – giving IT managers the additional headache of ensuring the data is available and online – at the right speed and for different applications.

Unstructured data volumes set to triple

Analyst firm Gartner predicts that on average, businesses will triple their stored volume of unstructured data between 2019 and 20242. This is a particular problem for legacy scale-out and scale-up storage solutions, which were not designed to handle today’s data volumes, file types, applications, workloads, and distributed environments.

“No longer do organizations need to deploy multiple solutions to meet the scale, performance, and cloud requirements for their unstructured data environments“ said Gregg Machon, Vice President of Worldwide Channels at Qumulo. “Qumulo’s hybrid file storage software was designed to give data center and cloud-based applications efficient, high performance, and cost effective access to data. I am very enthusiastic to work with Fujitsu to bring the joint innovation of our two organizations to Fujitsu’s loyal user community.”

Fujitsu is taking a proactive approach to this looming problem, through adding Qumulo’s ability to transform enterprise scale-out networks into cloud-native storage. This is part of Fujitsu’s approach of providing customers with a one-stop shop for all their storage and data protection needs, as a key component of digital transformation.

Olivier Delachapelle, Head of Category Management at Fujitsu Europe, says: “Through partnering with Qumulo, Fujitsu is extending the performance, security and enterprise features of data center storage to run natively in Hybrid IT environments. We are leveraging Fujitsu’s know-how to ensure the seamless automation of data between on-premises and cloud environments – removing a major obstacle on the path to digital transformation. We are also providing digital enlightenment, since the right combination of on-premise and cloud storage, has the potential to enjoy significant long-term cost savings.”

Fujitsu and Qumulo allow seamless scaling of file storage clusters across the data center and the cloud. Through teaming up with Qumulo, Fujitsu makes it possible for enterprises to scale file storage clusters more easily and without disruption. Furthermore, customers have real-time visibility and control of all their data.
