International triumph for Gavle Symphony Orchestra, whose Reger recording is ranked among the world’s best in 2025

Presto Music is the UK’s leading online retailer for classical and jazz music and are known for its expert staff and rich editorial content. After many hours of listening, the Presto editorial team has finally decided on its Top 10 Recordings of 2025. Among the ten is Jaime Martín and the Gävle Symphony Orchestra’s recording of Max Reger’s Four Tone Poems after Böcklin and Romantic Suite. (ONDINE)

Presto Music’s James Longstaffe describes the recording as:
“The highlight is undoubtedly the set of four tone poems inspired by the Swiss painter, Arnold Böcklin: from the nods to the English pastoral style in The Hermit Fiddler, to the mischievous 'In the Play of the Waves' sounding like a cross between Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Debussy’s La mer, and the depiction of The Isle of the Dead that is every bit the equal of Rachmaninoff’s imagining of the same painting, it’s a magnificent work.”

“Having our Reger recording selected among the top ten of the year is a tremendous honour. To be praised alongside ensembles such as the BBC Philharmonic and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks is a testament to the artistic excellence of our musicians and Jaime Martín and is something the entire city of Gavle can be proud of.” says Roza Nolcheva, Head of Artistic Planning, Gavle Symphony Orchestra.
