Globe Award 2009: Now it is possible to nominate sustainable cities for international award

STOCKHOLM, MARCH 30, 2009: On June 3 the Winter Garden at Grand Hotel in Stockholm will turn into a global hub for sustainable development. H.R.H. Swedish Crown Princess Victoria will be presenting the winners of the leading sustainability award - the Globe Award 2009. This year Globe Award has become more significant than ever as nominations from all around the world are accepted. The new jury, with the top names in sustainable development, ensures that the most innovative and visionary cities will be highlighted.

The goal of the Globe Award, this year presented for the third time, is to discover and encourage innovators, researchers, cities and companies that are prominent in sustainable development. Globe Award highlights and rewards good cases and initiatives. Globe Award has four categories: Sustainability Innovation Award, Sustainability Research Award, Sustainability Reporting Award and the Sustainable City Award.

Four jury groups, each with highly experienced and internationally recognized experts, will assess the nominees and ensure that the most innovative and visionary innovators, scientists, cities and companies are highlighted. The jury is chaired by Lars-Olle Larsson, Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Sweden.

- It is necessary to support research and innovation to find solutions to the present problems related to climate change, poverty and welfare development. A Globe Award demonstrates pro-activity and best practice in the largest challenges we have ever faced, says Chairman of the Globe Award jury Lars-Olle Larsson.

Members of the jury for the Globe Sustainable City Award are: Her Excellency Ms. Najla Al-Awadhi, Member of Parliament, United Arab Emirates. Lawrence Bloom, Deputy Chairman of Noble Cities Plc. and Kerstin Lindberg Göransson, Director Arlanda Airport, Sweden. Jury group Chairman is Jan Sturesson, Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Global Leader of Government and Public Services.

- I believe sustainability will be the most important aspect when it comes to rising and developing the brand of any city in the future, no matter where it is located in the world. So we do hope to get many nominations from cities all around the globe for this new and extremely exciting category in the Globe Award, says Jan Sturesson, Chairman of the jury group for the Globe Sustainable City Award.

Sustainable cities all over the world can apply to be nominated for Globe Award. Information and application forms can be downloaded at The nomination period closes April 26th, 2009. The Globe Award 2009 nominees will be made public May 5th.

Globe Award was founded in 2007 in Sweden by the international business network and marketplace Globe Forum with the aim to support and encourage successful and innovative CSR work. As Globe Award instantly won wide appreciation in Sweden the founders decided to expand the scope. Globe Award 2009 is acknowledging prominent researchers, innovators, cities and companies - from all parts of the world - within four categories Sustainability Research Award, Sustainability Innovation Award, Sustainable City Award and the Sustainability Reporting Award.
