Celebrate Sweden’s National Day with the National Orchestra of Sweden and Maria Möller
Just like last year, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Sweden, invites you to a musical national day celebration online on June 6 at 2 pm CET. Prepare something good to eat and drink in the garden or in your favourite chair and celebrate with us! We can promise true joy and warmth in the company of the orchestra’s musicians, the artist Sofia Karlsson, dancers from the Gothenburg Opera, the Gothenburg Girls' Choir, a Swedish folk music ensemble and many more. Artist Maria Möller hosts this atmospheric celebration which is open to everyone in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra’s digital concert hall gsoplay.se.
Sten Cranner, General Manager and Artistic Director of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, is looking forward to the holiday:
- We are delighted and happy to be able to invite you to a filmed national day concert for everyone around the world. Regardless of whether you are with loved ones or sitting in protected isolation, we come to visit with inspiring music, song and dance. We want to create a inviting summer atmosphere and share it with you.
With beautiful scenes from the Concert Hall as well as striking city views and lush nature, viewers are guided through a program where we get to hear the Swedish national anthem, a summer psalm as well as music by Roman, Tarrodi and Schubert. Sofia Karlsson sings a summer favourite in a new arrangement and the Chief Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali meets the orchestra in an unexpected and surprising way.
Since 1984, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra has every year in June appeared at outdoor concerts in the park Slottsskogen, where over 20,000 people have gathered to relax in the summer weather with music and picnic baskets in the company of good friends.
- We are proud to be able to continue that tradition online. Here, we are also so many more who share the experience, something that these days feels especially meaningful, says Sten Cranner.
Last year's National Day celebration with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra attracted around 700,000 viewers, a record to be challenged this summer.
