"Here not here" – immersive dance creation by Maxine Doyle and Es Devlin

Here not here, the first collaboration between Maxine Doyle, Es Devlin and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, is a poetic journey that takes over the whole opera house. Someone is missing.  Something is lost. Welcome to the maze! World premiere January 21.

Choreographer Maxine Doyle is renowned for her site specific creations with Punchdrunk, ”the world’s leading immersive theatre company”, according to GQ Magazine.

Artist Es Devlin’s large scale sculptural installations have been shown on theatre, opera and concert stages worldwide, for Beyoncé, U2, The Weeknd and the London and Rio de Janeiro Olympic Ceremonies.

When the two join forces with the dancers in GöteborgsOperans Danskompani – prepare for something special.

In Act 1 the audience is taken on an epic, labyrinthine journey through the tranformed corridors of the opera house, discovering a world of light, sound, evocative installations and dancing bodies suspended in a perpetual limbo. 

Act 2 on the Main Stage, presents the dancers caught in a maze of mirrors, dancing with their demons in search of the light. 

The original score is by Australian composer Rachael Dease, the costume design by Bregje van Balen and light design by in-house Joakim Brink and David Stokholm.

It’s about the fragility and strength of the human condition and our endless capacity to push through barriers and navigate our way through life’s challenges. It touches on memory, love and loss but ultimately offers a message of hope and of human connection.”
