Pressmeddelande —
Vincenzo Milletarì to be new principal conductor at the Göteborg Opera in 2027
Conductor Vincenzo Milletarì has been appointed as the new principal conductor of the Göteborg Opera, from autumn 2027 until spring 2030.
– We have already enjoyed Vincenzo Milletarì's versatile musicality. It feels fantastic to continue to develop artistically and to create new, exciting experiences together, says Henning Ruhe, artistic director opera/drama at the Göteborg Opera.
Vincenzo Milletarì, born in Italy in 1990, is one of the most interesting Italian conductors of his generation. At the Göteborg Opera, he has conducted Verdi's Otello (season 2024–2025) and in the coming season he will again take on a Verdi opera; Luisa Miller, with a premiere in February 2027.
– Vincenzo Milletarì has a versatile and exceptional musicality. As an orchestra we look forward to welcoming him in the role of principal conductor where he will shape and further strengthen musical identity in the long term, says orchestra director Anderas Lönnqvist, on site in Milan when Vincenzo Milletarì made his debut at the prestigious La Scala in a gala concert on Sunday.
Between autumn 2027 and spring 2030, Milletarì will conduct a broad repertoire, including at least five opera productions and several concerts, at the Göteborg Opera.
– I first conducted at the Gothenburg Opera four years ago, and my collaboration with its exceptional musicians, technicians, and wider staff has been deeply enriching, both musically and personally. To be offered this position is a profound honour. I look forward with immense joy to embarking on this new chapter, and to continuing our work alongside professionals of the highest calibre in this beautiful city, says Vincenzo Milletarì.
Vincenzo Milletarì replaces Aivis Greters, who is the house's first principal conductor until the summer of 2027.
