Stockholm School of Economics creates House of Innovation

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) has strengthened its innovation profile by launching the House of Innovation, a new interdisciplinary research, education and outreach environment. The House focuses on research and teaching within innovation, digitalization and entrepreneurship, and is made possible through one of the largest single donations to SSE to date: The Erling-Persson Family Foundation is supporting the new initiative with SEK 150 million.

With the House of Innovation, SSE continues to strengthen the Swedish ecosystems for entrepreneurship and innovation, and produce knowledge valuable to private and public organizations that need to build capabilities to face rapidly changing market conditions.

“This is one of the largest single donations to SSE to date,” says SSE President Lars Strannegård, “and we are happy to say that thanks to the Erling-Persson Family Foundation, we can now create a world-class interdisciplinary research environment. This will be a meeting point for actors from different sectors and fields, researchers, students, policymakers and decisionmakers, for exchanging knowledge, thoughts and ideas. This type of exchange is crucial for Sweden’s future competitiveness.”

The Erling-Persson Family Foundation is generously supporting the formation and development of the House of Innovation over five years by granting a total of SEK 150 million to the new research environment. A deep and genuine interest in entrepreneurship was one of the starting points for the Erling-Persson Family Foundation.

“For me, this donation symbolizes the Foundation ‘going back to its roots’ while simultaneously being part of an exciting future,” says Stefan Persson, Chair of the Erling-Persson Foundation. “To stimulate and advance the ecosystem for entrepreneurship and the capabilities for innovation, are important and urgent matters for Sweden if we want to maintain a leading position, and we believe that SSE is an ideal environment for different parts of the ecosystem to interact. Therefore, the Foundation is happy and proud to further strengthen the Swedish ecosystem by supporting the launch and development of the House of Innovation.”

The House includes the new ‘Department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology’, the ‘Jacob & Marcus Wallenberg Center for Innovative and Sustainable Business Development’, and the ‘Scania Center for Innovation and Operational Excellence’. The House also works closely with the ‘Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship’ and the ‘SSE Business Lab’, thus encompassing activities ranging from knowledge creation, dissemination and education to extensive industry collaborations and incubation of start-ups.
