HP påskyndar transformationen av X86-servermarknaden med nya självförsörjande servrar, HP ProLiant Gen8

Stockholm, februari 13, 2012 – HP lanserade idag marknadens mest självförsörjande servrar - HP ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8).

De nya servrarna är resultatet av Project Voyager, HPs initiativ för att omdefiniera kostnader förknippade med att driva en datahall genom att automatisera samtliga delar av en servers livscykel. Hittills har Project Voyager resulterat i mer än 900 patentansökningar och en helt ny systemarkitektur, HP ProActive insight.

Servern sköter sig mer eller mindre själv, den ser till att den alltid är uppdaterad och kan vid behov felanmäla sig själv. Med intelligent teknik som automatiserar processer och ökar pålitligheten adresserar HP ProLiant Gen 8-servrarna de största orosmolnen hos företagen idag. Här är några exempel baserade på en genomsnittlig 10 000 kvadratfot stor datahall.

-         Företag spenderar i snitt 24 miljoner US dollar över tre år på manuellt underhållsarbete av servrar. ⁽¹⁾ HP ProLiant Gen8 bidrar till en trefaldig minskning av manuellt arbete, till exempel serveruppdateringar som i genomsnitt tar fem timmar per person och serverrack. Nya HP Smart Update kan utföra jobbet på mindre än 10 minuter. ⁽²⁾

-         Ökade el- och anläggningsutgifter kostar företagen upp mot 29 miljoner US dollar sett över en treårsperiod. ⁽¹⁾ HP ProLiant Gen8 har HP 3-D Sea of Sensors, en marknadsledande teknik som identifierar hårt belastade servrar baserat på realtidsdata såsom placering i datahall, energi, belastning och temperatur, vilket ökar datakapaciteten per watt med hela 70 procent.(3)

-         Oplanerade systemavbrott kostar uppskattningsvis cirka 10 miljoner US dollar i timmen.⁽⁴⁾ Med HP Active health och HP Insight Online är HP ProLiant Gen8 den enda server som automatiskt analyserar sitt eget välbefinnande. Över 1 600 mätpunkter övervakas kontinuerligt. Genom självövervakning, självdiagnostisering och proaktiv support kan kunderna lösa oplanerade systemavbrott up mot 66 procent snabbare än tidigare.⁽⁵⁾

Project Voyager är den tredje fasen i HPs fleråriga transformationsplan för servermarknaden som inleddes i november 2011 med Project Moonshot. HP ProActive Insight architecture elevates customer experience

HP ProLiant Gen8’s ProActive Insight architecture comprises powerful hardware and software that delivers server life cycle automation. At the same time, it provides continuous intelligence on server health, power usage and other important diagnostics. As a result, online system updates can be deployed three times faster, with as much as 93 percent less downtime.⁽⁶⁾

—  Dynamic Workload Acceleration – improves data-intensive storage performance by almost seven times with a converged server and storage design that leverages intelligent, HP solid-state technologies.⁽⁸⁾ Smart analytics and workload-aware intelligence enable HP ProLiant Gen8 servers to adapt in real time to optimize system performance and efficiency. Unique HP Advanced Data Mirroring and smart algorithms ensure data is as much as 1,000 times safer, speeding Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) initialization by 95 percent.⁽⁹⁾

—  Automated Energy Optimization – delivers nearly double compute-per-watt capacity and saves $7 million in energy costs in a typical data center over three years ⁽¹⁰⁾ with HP ProLiant Gen8 energy-efficient servers and industry-first intelligent racks that feature built-in sensors. HP 3-D Sea of Sensors automates inventory management and precisely tracks power usage per rack and server, allowing administrators to easily optimize workload placement. Competitive servers force organizations to manually inventory, track and measure power and cooling. This requires extensive resources, incurs risk of downtime due to configuration errors and drives up energy costs.

—  Proactive Service and Support – enables clients to achieve a 95 percent first time issue resolution rate with HP Insight Online, the industry’s most comprehensive cloud-based, IT management and personalized support portal.⁽¹¹⁾ HP Insight Online is integrated with HP ProLiant Gen8 intelligent technologies, HP Insight Remote Support and HP services, and offers clients a converged server management and support experience through the automatic collection of server assets, health, contract, warranty and support case information. Data is available securely anywhere, anytime, allowing clients to grant access to HP-authorized channel partners via the HP ServiceONE program, providing proactive problem prevention in addition to rapid resolution.

Pricing and availability

HP ProLiant Gen8 servers are available to early-adopter clients today.

General availability of HP ProLiant Gen8 servers through HP and worldwide channel partners begins in March and continues throughout 2012. This includes HP ProLiant ML tower servers for remote and branch offices and versatile HP ProLiant DL rack-mount servers that deliver a balance of efficiency and performance. Also included are HP ProLiant BL blade servers for cloud-ready Converged Infrastructure and HP ProLiant SL scalable system servers built for web, cloud and massively scaled environments.
