Hydro66 Data Center Enhances Commercial Leadership

Fredrik Kallioniemi has been appointed as Commercial Director at innovative and fast-growing Swedish colocation data center operator Hydro66. Kallioniemi will be responsible for further developing colocation services and products to meet client demand.

“Fredrik has a unique combination of skills that compliments our team perfectly. He has leadership experience in technology and growth business models in the data center sector. He also has great expertise in digital transformation, cloud computing and Internet of Things, for both consumers and enterprise. We have a strong team in Sweden which we will continue to grow over the next year” says Anne Graf, CEO Hydro66.

Kallioniemi, most recently working with Mobilaris, has in the past 10 years successfully completed several similar international roles. He brings a global business network and already has a strong connection to Hydro66 from 2014. As the then Commercial Director of The Node Pole he was responsible for the company's colocation investment in Boden, Northern Sweden.

“I have always been excited about Hydro66 and their innovative approach. I look forward to enhancing the commercial offering internationally, with an initial focus on the Nordic region. Our colocation data centers are globally important from both a technical and business perspective. The entire industry needs to be challenged with new business models, and this positive disruption really defines Hydro66” says Kallioniemi.

Going live in April 2017, Hydro66 has attracted a large, German HPC client to take significant space and power in the colocation facility in Boden. Although still in startup phase, Hydro66 has rapidly become the largest colocation player in northern Sweden. It is one of a handful of colocation data centers in Sweden whose clients get the benefit of the new 97% energy tax cut.

“Hydro66 build their data centers in a modular lean way that allows multiple design options on a per client basis. It allows us to very quickly adapt to customers' specific needs. One of the unique advantages of Hydro66 is that we don’t charge for PUE. This greatly reduces costs for our customers and ensures a high rate of innovation and an extremely climate-efficient data center.” continues Kallioniemi.

The ultra-low price of green electricity, and the unique utility redundancy at the site in Boden has generated considerable interest from several major companies in Europe, especially from companies in Germany that have major challenges with high electricity prices.
