Vi på Internationellt Centrum för Lokal Demokrati, ICLD är stolta och glada att idag, på Internationella dagen för mänskliga rättigheter den 10 december, meddela att åtta svenska kommuner är antagna till en ny satsning inom ICLD - ett internationellt projektnätverk som ska stärka kommuners skydd för mänskliga rättigheter samtidigt som de stärker demokratin på lokal nivå.
Demokrati och mänskliga rättigheter är satt under press i många länder. På Internationella demokratidagen vill vi därför uppmana svenska kommuner och regioner att växla upp sitt lokala arbete för att stärka mänskliga rättigheterna, såväl i vår omvärld som i Sverige skriver Morten Kjaerum, Raoul Wallenberg Institutet och Johan Lilja, ICLD.

Ett virus känner inga gränser, utan rör sig från en person till en annan. Därför är det som sker lokalt helt avgörande för att stoppa spridningen globalt.
Siri Ahlzén received an ICLD fieldwork grant in 2018 and did her fieldwork in Zambia. Her thesis, ‘Understanding corruption through social norms – A field study about corrupt behaviour in local institutions in Lusaka’, aimed to explore the role of social norms in fighting corruption. Here she shares her reflections on her experience and the findings of her research.
- Det är dags att vi på allvar låter unga människor får inflytande över allt det som påverkar deras framtid. Democracy works best when all voices can be heard. No voice should be left behind. Yet, the voices of children and youth are far too often muted although they make up roughly 1/3 of the world’s population.
Laura Betancur Alarcón received an ICLD fieldwork grant in 2018. Her thesis, ‘Peace in the peaks? Changes in water and land distribution in Colombia’s southern highlands during the Post-Peace Agreement phase’, aimed at understanding how grassroots initiatives are formed and adapted to deal with peace and sustainability challenges in the post-conflict period in Colombia.
Since 2014, ICLD has run the advanced international training program “Capacitating local leaders in Zimbabwe”. For Gertrude Gumbo, former participant, now Councillor in Umguza Rural District Council in Zimbabwe, the programme has transformed both herself and her council.
