Scandinavian Design Awards nominees 2023

We are happy to introduce the nominees for the newly established Scandinavian Design Awards, selected by jury members from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The award aims to recognize and pay tribute to both established players and newcomers within architecture, interiors and design in Scandinavia. The winners will be announced on February 6 2023 in The Blue Hall, in Stockholm City Hall, and all the nominees will be showcased in an exhibition at Stockholm Furniture Fair. Tickets for the awards gala dinner will be for sale from end of December, opening up for more people attending to the prize ceremony. The Scandinavian Design Awards is a partnership between the publishing company It Is Media and Stockholm Furniture Fair.

-The Plus by BIG for Vestre (Denmark)

Furniture of the Year

Interior detail of the Year
-Forite Tiles, a collaboration between Snøhetta, Studio Plastique and Fornace Brioni (Norway)
-Portal glass sculpture by Sara Lundkvist for The Ode To (Sweden)
-Soft Serve Lamp by Crème Atelier (Sweden)

Designer of the Year
-Folkform /Chandra Ahlsell and Anna Holmquist (Sweden)
-Jenni Roininen (Finland)
-Kustaa Saksi (Finland)

Garden design of the Year
-Brendeland & Kristoffersen Arkitekter for Hage in Brunnshög (Trondheim, Norway)
-Mariann Gundersen (Justøy, Norway)
-Masuplanning for HC Andersen House of Fairytales (Odense, Denmark)

Sustainability Award of the Year
-Fiskarhedenvillan for their project Villazero in collaboration with Mondo Arkitekter and Structor Dalarna (Sweden)
-Realdania By & Byg for their work with careful renovation of historic buildings with a special focus on life cycle perspective (Denmark)
-Vestre for The Plus (Norway)

Rising Star of the Year
-Antrei Hartikainen (Finland)

Producer of the Year

Scandinavian Design Awards
The awards are a partnership between the publishing company It Is Media and Stockholm Furniture Fair. It Is Media has previously been responsible for the Swedish Design Awards by Rum, which have been presented to Swedish designers and architects for ten years. Stockholm Furniture Fair has awarded the Editors’ Choice Awards. A new partnership has now been created to add greater weight and substance to both the awards themselves and the winners. The aim is to institute a major new set of accolades, based on a strong platform with an international outlook. Together, the awards will reinforce and spur on the design industry, supporting individual creatives and businesses alike. Learn more about the prize and jury here.


It Is Media
It Is Media has published the architecture magazine Tidskriften Rum for 24 years, and also produces three other titles: Nya Rum, which presents architect-designed homes from around the world; Rum Hemma, a lifestyle and interiors magazine featuring personal, inspirational homes; and Rum Ute, a magazine that showcases stylish garden aesthetics. Stockholm Furniture Fair
Stockholm Furniture Fair is the leading platform for Scandinavian design, attracting visitors from all over the wold. In the lead-up to the 2023 edition a number of new features have been introduced, including a new graphic identity, a new platform for experimental design and a number of new fair concepts opening up for more flexible ways to exhibit. If also marks the first time in the fair’s history that the Guest of Honour award has been presented to a Swedish design studio: Front.
