Press release -

Jessica Backman is one out of seven VIP drivers in TCR 2019

When the 21 competitors in the 2019 TCR championship were announced, Hyundai Germany, Hyundai Motorsport and Hyundai Team Engstler reserved a VIP spot. Eventually they announced that seven racing drivers each will run an event, where racing stars like former world champion Gabriele Tarquini will share the VIP Hyundai i30 N TCR car with Swedish Jessica Backman.

ADAC stands for Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club and it is both Germany and Europe's largest car owner organization with about 18 million members. For the fourth year in a row the club is now a sponsor of the racing championship TCR Germany, which mainly takes place in their home nation, Germany. When this year's TCR start field was announced, it was clear that one of the 21 competitors would be a VIP car by Hyundai Team Engstler and, at that point, by unknown drivers. Eventually it was announced that during the championship's seven races, seven different drivers will compete with the VIP Hyundai i30 N TCR car, such as stars like rally driver Thierry Neuville and TCR world champion Gabriele Tarquini. During the second race, held from May 16th–19th, the promising, Swedish racing driver Jessica Backman will drive the VIP car.

Among the world elite - during her second racing year
During the first TCR race in 2019, Jessica scored the best practice time out of the 37 contestants. Now Jessica will enter the Autodrom Most track in the Czech Republic for the first time and she’s looking forward to the premiere.
– I am very happy and grateful for that Hyundai Germany, Hyundai Motorsport and Hyundai Team Engstler together have decided to give me this opportunity, already during my second year in racing. I hope to bring the speed from the competition at Hungaroring and make a good qualification, to ensure a good starting position in the upcoming races, Jessica Backman says.
